Process Approach

Why the Process Approach, specifically

The Process Approach is not merely Triaster’s preference: it is fundamental to ISO 9001.

What the Process Approach means

In summary, and paraphrasing the principle rather than reproducing standard text: work is understood as a set of interrelated processes, each with inputs, activities and outputs, managed as a system rather than as separate departmental activities.

  • Processes have inputs, activities and outputs.
  • Work flows across departmental boundaries.
  • The interaction between processes matters as much as each process alone.
  • Ownership and measures make a process manageable.
  • Controlled processes are easier to improve.
  • End-to-end understanding reduces siloed local practice.
  • A process-based QMS is more usable than a collection of isolated documents.

For the authoritative wording, refer to the published standard via the ISO 9001 page on iso.org. ISO does not mandate any particular software, including Triaster software.

How it connects to adoption and drift

It matches how people work

People experience work as a flow, not as a set of departmental documents. Content organised the same way is easier to find and follow.

It makes ownership visible

When a process crosses functions, the Process Approach forces the question of who owns it end-to-end, the single strongest defence against drift.

It makes change tractable

When a system changes, a process view shows exactly which flows are affected, so updates are scoped instead of guessed.

The Process Approach does not automatically prevent every failure. It makes the way work is performed explicit, governed and improvable, which is what gives an organisation something reliable to improve from.
